AWS cloud architecture, migration, Terraform, and cost optimisation
Cloud infrastructure you can rebuild from code
Architecture, migration, and cost work on AWS — with everything defined in Terraform so environments are reproducible and changes get reviewed like code.
The problem
Infrastructure built by hand is infrastructure exactly one person can change. It cannot be reviewed, it cannot be tested, and it cannot be rebuilt if the account is lost. Every manual change widens the gap between what you believe is running and what is actually running, and you find out how wide that gap is during an incident.
What's included
Cloud architecture and setup
Networking, compute, storage, and IAM designed for what you actually run, with a security baseline that will survive a customer's review.
Migration to AWS
Moving from on-premise or another provider, planned in stages so there is no single high-risk cutover night.
Infrastructure as code
Existing hand-built infrastructure imported into Terraform without downtime, refactored into modules so a new environment is a variables file.
Cost optimisation
A fixed-price audit producing a ranked list of savings with a figure and a risk note against each item, plus tagging so spend stays attributable afterwards.
Security and access review
IAM tidy-up, secrets handling, network exposure, and the infrastructure sections of a standard security questionnaire, answered once and reusable.
How we approach it
- 01
Inventory what actually exists
Audit the live account against the team's mental model of it. This step routinely surfaces resources nobody remembers creating and access wider than intended.
- 02
Import rather than rebuild
Bring existing resources into Terraform state as they are. Nothing is taken down, so the migration can proceed without a change freeze.
- 03
Refactor into modules
Once state reflects reality, extract the repeated parts so environments differ by configuration rather than by history.
- 04
Prove it with a second environment
Until staging has been built from the same modules as production, you have Terraform files rather than reproducible infrastructure.
- 05
Move changes into review
Plan on pull requests, apply on merge. Infrastructure starts getting the same scrutiny as application code.
Our position
"Import beats rebuild. Every time."
The instinct when adopting infrastructure as code is to rebuild it properly and cut over. That plan rarely survives contact with production. Importing what exists is less satisfying and far faster to finish, and it never needs a maintenance window to discover what you forgot.
